DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Summer Building 08

Plans have been approved for our first phase of the YMCA remodeling. Thanks to many friends who have generously supported the Y, we will begin construction of a new front entrance in June. The new entrance will feature a handicap accessible ramp with new steps, a large canopy and automatic opening doors. The new entrance will dramatically improve accessibility and significantly improve our image while retaining the historic view of our 1916 facility.

In addition the demolition of the Brock building will take place. Some may recall that the Brock building(immediately adjacent to our swimming pool) was the former Decker’s Sporting Goods store twenty years ago. The Brock building foot print equals in size to our pool building and will accommodate one-half of the new space for our new locker rooms. The remaining half will be in the now alley and our current Nautilus area. The new lockers will be similar to the now Health Services locker rooms but we will eliminate the lounge and exercise areas. The biggest change will be that the new locker rooms will be on the main floor. ie no more stairs and all new spa facilities.

All this work will take place in the summer and fall. Our plans calls to start phase two next year with remodeling ofthe entire main floor. The third phase is to build a new gym on the remaining Brock building foot print. All we need is another $2.5 million.

The City Of Anderson will be assisting us with some utility transfer and they are pursuing federal appropriation funds for the project. When this happens, we will be well into phase two of our plans next year.

Your support is still needed. Contact Dan Sager, CEO or any Y boardmember about how you can help.
